Back3.1.6.3.(4)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Spatial separation of tents from one another, where the tents are used as buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and:
  • are not more than 120 m2 in ground area,
  • are located on fair grounds or similar open spaces, and
  • do not create a hazard to the public.
This also applies when tents are used as buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(1).

INTENT:

To exempt tents from the spatial separation requirements of Sentence 3.1.6.3.(1) and Clause 3.1.6.3.(2)(a) if such tents are limited in size, restricted to certain locations and do not pose a hazard to persons nearby.
