Back3.1.9.3.(2)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Totally enclosed non-metallic raceways conforming to Article 3.1.5.20., optical fibre cables, and electrical wires and cables, single or grouped, with combustible insulation, jackets or sheathes that conform to the requirements of Clause 3.1.5.18.(1)(a) and that are not installed in totally enclosed noncombustible raceways, which penetrate an assembly required to have a fire-resistance rating, and where the overall diameter of the single or grouped wires or cables, or the raceways is not more than 25 mm.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

INTENT:

To exempt certain service equipment from the application of Sentence 3.1.9.2.(1) if certain conditions are met, on the basis that the equipment is deemed to insignificantly contribute to the growth and spread of fire.
