Back3.1.9.3.(4)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Combustible totally enclosed raceways that are embedded in a concrete floor slab installed in an assembly required to have a fire-resistance rating where the concrete cover between the raceway and the bottom of the slab is not less than 50 mm, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

INTENT:

To exempt certain service equipment from the application of Sentence 3.1.9.2.(1) if certain conditions are met, on the basis that the equipment is deemed to insignificantly contribute to the growth and spread of fire.
