Back3.1.10.1.(3)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Firewalls supported on structural frames of buildings of noncombustible construction where the supporting frames have a fire-resistance rating not less than that required for the firewall.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A, and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] as stated in Sentence 9.10.11.3.(1).

INTENT:

To clarify that the continuity of firewalls referred to in Sentence 3.1.10.3.(1) can include structural frame support if certain conditions are met. This is to limit the probability of the structural integrity of the firewall being compromised in fire conditions.
