Back3.1.13.6.(3)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Flame-spread rating limits specified in Sentences 3.1.13.6.(1) and (2) for corridors referred to in Sentence 3.1.13.6.(1) in which the flame-spread rating is not more than 150.
This also applies to occupancies in the corridor, as stated in Sentence 3.1.13.6.(4).
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A that are sprinklered throughout.

INTENT:

To exempt interior wall finishes in corridors from the application of Sentences 3.1.13.2.(1), 3.1.13.6.(1) and 3.1.13.6.(2), which would otherwise require certain maximum flame-spread ratings, if certain conditions are met, on the basis that these finishes will not significantly contribute to the spread of flame, and the condition imposed [sprinklering] will control the growth and spread of fire.
