Back3.2.1.1.(1)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Rooftop enclosures provided for elevator machinery, stairways or service rooms used only for service to the building, for calculating the building height in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

INTENT:

To exclude certain rooftop enclosures from the calculation of building height on the basis that such enclosures are normally only briefly and intermittently occupied by persons and thus do not pose an undue fire safety risk to persons.
