ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

 

APPLICATION:

Service spaces in which facilities are included to permit a person to enter and to undertake maintenance and other operations pertaining to building services from within the service space, where such service spaces conform to Articles 3.2.5.15. and 3.3.1.24., and Sentences 3.2.4.18.(12), 3.2.7.3.(2),3.3.1.3.(7), 3.4.2.4.(3) 3.4.4.4.(9).
This applies to [the calculation of building height in] buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

INTENT:

To exempt certain service spaces from being considered as a storey in calculating the building height if certain conditions are met [the service spaces conform to Articles 3.2.5.15. and 3.3.1.24., and Sentences 3.2.4.18.(12), 3.2.7.3.(2), 3.3.1.3.(7), 3.4.2.4.(3) and 3.4.4.4.(9)], on the basis that such spaces do not impose an undue fire safety risk to persons.
To direct Code users to Articles 3.2.5.15. and 3.3.1.24., and Sentences 3.3.1.3.(7),3.2.7.3.(2), 3.3.1.3.(7), 3.4.2.4.(3) and 3.4.4.4.(9).
