Back3.2.2.15.(3)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Automatic sprinkler system in a storey that:
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].
This also applies to a basement containing more than 1 storey, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(3).

INTENT:

To exclude a basement used as a residential occupancy from the requirements of Clause 3.2.2.15.(2)(a) pertaining to the installation of an automatic sprinkler system.
To expand the application of Sentence 3.2.5.1.(1) to a storey of residential occupancy located immediately below the first storey and that is not required to be sprinklered.
