Back3.2.2.19.(1)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Application of Articles 3.2.2.36. and 3.2.2.37. for a Group B, Division 1 major occupancy to a building containing an impeded egress zone and conforming to the appropriate requirements of Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.83., when:
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].

INTENT:

To exempt certain buildings from the application of Articles 3.2.2.36. and 3.2.2.37., which might otherwise require more stringent requirements than would normally be needed for the type of building use, on the basis that the building is limited in size, the occupant load is restricted, there are no sleeping areas, there is free movement within the space, the fire load is not high, and the building is fully sprinklered. [Persons should not be unduly delayed in reaching a safe place or be exposed to a spreading fire.]
