Back3.2.2.35.(2)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Type of construction of roof assemblies and supporting arches and columns in a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group A, Division 4 major occupancy. This applies in buildings that have no restrictions on building height or building area.
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].

INTENT:

To exempt roof assemblies and supporting arches and columns of heavy timber construction from the requirement of Sentence 3.2.2.35.(1) for noncombustible construction.
