APPLICATION:

3.2.7. [ Article
3.2.7.3.] in:
- exits,
- principal routes providing access to exits in open floor areas,
- corridors used by the public,
- corridors serving patients' sleeping rooms,
- corridors serving classrooms,
- underground walkways,
- public corridors,
- service spaces referred to in Sentence 3.2.1.1.(8) [service spaces that are sufficiently large that workers can enter the space for construction, inspection, maintenance and repair of building services], and
- floor areas or parts thereof where the public may congregate in:
- Group A, Division 1 occupancies, or
- Group A, Division 2 and 3 occupancies having an occupant load of 60 or more.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence
1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
INTENT:
To limit the probability that exits, egress routes and certain
areas in buildings will have inadequate illumination when there is a loss
of normal power, which could lead to safety hazards [bumping, tripping, falling,
etc.], which could lead to harm to persons.
To limit the probability that exits, egress routes and certain
areas in buildings will have inadequate illumination when there is a loss
of normal power in an emergency situation, which could lead to delays in the
evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm
to persons.
