Functional Statement:

To support and withstand expected loads and forces.

To limit movement under expected loads and forces.

OS2.1, OS2.4, OS2.5

Design to ensure adequate stability of a structure as a whole, and adequate lateral, torsional and local stability of all structural parts of buildings.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence of Division A and buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence of Division A] that are required to be designed to the requirements of Part 4.

To limit the probability that the maximum expected vertical forces acting on the structure will cause large displacements of the structural system as a whole or in part, or that maximum expected compressive forces acting on structural components will cause component buckling, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
