Back5.6.2.2.(2)

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F61

To resist the ingress of precipitation, water or moisture from the exterior or from the ground.

Objective:

OH1.1, OH1.2, OH1.3

APPLICATION:

Drainage, for sloped or horizontal assemblies that are subject to the accumulation of precipitation, in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].

INTENT:

To limit the probability of over-flowing flashings or premature failure of materials, which could lead to water ingress.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • the inadequate control of relative humidity or water accumulation,
  • the generation of pollutants from biological growth or from materials that become unstable on wetting, or
  • deterioration, which could lead to compromised integrity of environmental separators.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • negative effects on the air quality of indoor spaces,
  • the inadequate thermal comfort of persons, and
  • contact with moisture.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.

Functional Statement:

F61

To resist the ingress of precipitation, water or moisture from the exterior or from the ground.

Objective:

OS2.3

APPLICATION:

Drainage, for sloped or horizontal assemblies that are subject to the accumulation of precipitation, in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].

INTENT:

To limit the probability of over-flowing flashings or premature failure of materials, which could lead to water ingress, which could lead to deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the separators or of elements supported or protected by the separators, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Drainage, for sloped or horizontal assemblies that are subject to the accumulation of precipitation, in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].

INTENT:

To direct Code users to the NPC requirement that identifies the direct consequences of non-compliance with the objective of Structural Safety.
