Back5.6.2.2.(3)

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F61

To resist the ingress of precipitation, water or moisture from the exterior or from the ground.

Objective:

OH1.1, OH1.2, OH1.3

APPLICATION:

Downspouts that are not connected to sewers and that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
This also applies to cladding assemblies installed on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] where:
  • the cladding assembly is not addressed in Section 9.27., or
  • the cladding assembly does not comply with the prescriptive requirements of Section 9.27.

INTENT:

To limit the probability of concentrating water run-off at the perimeter of the building, which could lead to excessive moisture loading, which could lead to water ingress.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • the inadequate control of relative humidity or water accumulation,
  • the generation of pollutants from biological growth or from materials that become unstable on wetting, or
  • deterioration, which could lead to compromised integrity of environmental separators.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • negative effects on the air quality of indoor spaces,
  • the inadequate thermal comfort of persons, and
  • contact with moisture.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F60

To control the accumulation and pressure of water on and in the ground.

F21

To limit or accommodate dimensional change.

Objective:

OS2.3, OS2.2

APPLICATION:

Downspouts that are not connected to sewers and that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
This also applies to cladding assemblies installed on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] where:
  • the cladding assembly is not addressed in Section 9.27., or
  • the cladding assembly does not comply with the prescriptive requirements of Section 9.27.

INTENT:

To limit the probability of concentrating water run-off at the perimeter of the building, which could lead to excessive moisture loading, which could lead to water ingress, which could lead to deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the separators or of elements supported or protected by the separators.
To limit the probability of soil erosion, which could lead to compromised integrity of soils supporting the building, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F21

To limit or accommodate dimensional change.

Objective:

OP2.6

APPLICATION:

Downspouts that are not connected to sewers and that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
This also applies to cladding assemblies installed on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] where:
  • the cladding assembly is not addressed in Section 9.27., or
  • the cladding assembly does not comply with the prescriptive requirements of Section 9.27.

INTENT:

To limit the probability of soil erosion, which could lead to compromised integrity of soils supporting the building, which could lead to movement, which could lead to damage to the building.
