To limit the probability that an inadequate design will
lead to an inability to accommodate relative structural movement [caused by,
for example, expected deflection of structural members, vibration or impact,
or earthquake loads], which could lead to damage to, or malfunction of, mechanical
systems or equipment installed in buildings, which could lead to the inadequate
control of:
- relative humidity or indoor air temperatures,
- surface temperatures,
- air velocity, or
- condensation.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
