APPLICATION:

Solid blocking for swinging doors, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9]:

in entrances to dwelling units,
between dwelling units and attached garages or other ancillary spaces, or
that provide access directly or indirectly from a storage garage to a dwelling unit.

INTENT:

To limit the probability of inadequate support of locks, which could lead to an inability to resist loads imposed by intruders trying to spread the frame away from the door, which could lead to forcing bolts from their strike plates, which could lead to unwanted entry, which could lead to harm to persons.
