Back9.8.6.2.(2)

ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

APPLICATION:

Interior landings at the top of stairs within dwelling units, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where the door swings away from the stair.
Also applies to landings for stairs within dwelling units in buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3], as stated in Sentence 3.3.4.7.(1).

INTENT:

To exempt from the application of the requirement for a landing in Sentence 9.8.6.2.(1), situations where a landing is provided when the door is opened, and users are likely to be familiar with the stair.
