Back6.2.1.1.(1)

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F31

To minimize the risk of injury to persons as a result of contact with hot surfaces or substances.

F51

To maintain appropriate air and surface temperatures.

Objective:

OP1.1

APPLICATION:

Design, construction and installation of heating systems, including mechanical refrigeration equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:
  • heating systems, including requirements for combustion air, and air-conditioning systems other than those serving individual dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.33.1.1.(2), and
  • air duct distribution systems serving heating systems in which the rated heat input exceeds 120 kW, as stated in Sentence 9.33.6.1.(2).

INTENT:

To limit the probability that the inadequate design, construction or operation of heating systems will lead to performance that is significantly below expectations, which could lead to fire, which could lead to damage to the building.

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F50

To provide air suitable for breathing.

F51

To maintain appropriate air and surface temperatures.

F52

To maintain appropriate relative humidity.

F54

To limit drafts.

F63

To limit moisture condensation.

Objective:

OH1.1

APPLICATION:

Design, construction and installation of heating and ventilating systems, including mechanical refrigeration equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:

INTENT:

To limit the probability that the inadequate design, construction or operation of heating or ventilating systems will lead to performance that is significantly below expectations, which could lead to:
  • an inability to maintain adequate indoor air temperature or to control relative humidity, which could lead to condensation, which could lead to the growth of mould and mildew, or
  • the inadequate control of airborne pollutants.
This is to limit the probability of negative effects on the air quality of indoor spaces, which could lead to harm to persons.

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F50

To provide air suitable for breathing.

F51

To maintain appropriate air and surface temperatures.

F52

To maintain appropriate relative humidity.

F54

To limit drafts.

F63

To limit moisture condensation.

Objective:

OH1.2, OH1.3

APPLICATION:

Design, construction and installation of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems, including mechanical refrigeration equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:

INTENT:

To limit the probability that the inadequate design, construction or operation of heating, ventilating or air-conditioning systems will lead to performance that is significantly below expectations, which could lead to the inadequate control of:
  • relative humidity or indoor air temperatures,
  • surface temperatures,
  • air velocity, or
  • condensation.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • the inadequate thermal comfort of persons, and
  • contact with moisture.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F50

To provide air suitable for breathing.

F31

To minimize the risk of injury to persons as a result of contact with hot surfaces or substances.

F63

To limit moisture condensation.

F51

To maintain appropriate air and surface temperatures.

F54

To limit drafts.

F52

To maintain appropriate relative humidity.

Objective:

OS3.2, OS3.4

APPLICATION:

Design, construction and installation of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems, including mechanical refrigeration equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:

INTENT:

To limit the probability that the performance of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems will fall significantly below expectations, which could lead to unsafe conditions [e.g. excessively hot supply air or surfaces, inadequate venting or the release of toxic gases in buildings], which could lead to harm to persons.

ATTRIBUTION:

Functional Statement:

F01

To minimize the risk of accidental ignition.

Objective:

OS1.1

APPLICATION:

Design, construction and installation of heating systems, including mechanical refrigeration equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:
  • heating systems, including requirements for combustion air, and air-conditioning systems other than those serving individual dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.33.1.1.(2), and
