Objective:

OH1.1

APPLICATION:

Air duct systems, in heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems, serving garages, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:

the ventilation of storage garages for more than 4 motor vehicles in residential occupancies, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.1.(3),
mechanical ventilating systems other than self-contained systems serving single dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.2.(2), and
the ventilation of all occupancies other than residential occupancies, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.1.(2).

INTENT:

To limit the probability that the interconnection of ductwork between the garage and other parts of the building will lead to the entry of gases, such as exhaust fumes from vehicles or other contaminants, into other parts of the building, which could lead to negative effects on the air quality of indoor spaces, which could lead to harm to persons.

This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:

the ventilation of storage garages for more than 4 motor vehicles in residential occupancies, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.1.(3),
mechanical ventilating systems other than self-contained systems serving single dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.2.(2), and
the ventilation of all occupancies other than residential occupancies, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.1.(2).

INTENT:

To limit the probability that the interconnection of ductwork between the garage and other parts of the building will lead to the spread of fire and products of combustion from the garage to other parts of the building, which could lead to harm to persons.
