ATTRIBUTION:

Most technical provisions of the BC Fire Code describe how the code’s objectives and functional statements are achieved. However, some provisions, like this one, do not relate directly to a code objective. The following analysis is provided to assist in understanding of the provision.

 

APPLICATION:

Interior guards within dwelling units and exterior guards serving not more than 2 dwelling units, where the guard construction used has been demonstrated to provide effective performance, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
This also applies to guards within dwelling units in buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3], as stated in Sentence 3.3.4.7.(1).

INTENT:

To exempt interior guards within dwelling units and exterior guards serving not more than 2 dwelling units from the application of Sentence 9.8.8.2.(1), where the guard construction used has been demonstrated to provide effective performance.
