HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:
SECTIONS 1 TO 6: [Ombudsman Act amendments] change the title of the Ombudsman to the Ombudsperson.
1 The title of the Ombudsman Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 340, is repealed and the following substituted:
2 Sections 2 (1) and (2), 3 (1) and (2), 4 (1) and (2), 5 (1) and (2), 6 (1) to (5), 7 (1) and (2), 8 (1) to (3), 9 (1) to (7), 10 (1) to (4), 11 (1) to (3), 12 (3) and (4), 13, 14 (1) to (3), 15 (1) to (3), 17, 18 (1) and (2), 19 (1) to (4), 20 (1) and (2), 21 (2), 22 (1) and (3), 23 (1) and (2), 24 (1) and (2), 25 (1) and (2), 26 (1) and (2), 27, 28, 29 (1) and (2), 30 (1) to (5), 31 (1) and (3), 32 and 34 (1) and (2) are amended by striking out "Ombudsman" wherever it appears and substituting "Ombudsperson".
3 Sections 9 (5) (a), 10 (1) and (4) (a), 11 (3), 15 (1) and (2) (a), 18 (2), 25 (2), 30 (1), 31 (1) and (3) and 34 (2) are amended by striking out "Ombudsman's" wherever it appears and substituting "Ombudsperson's".
4 The Acts listed in Column 1 of Schedule 1 are amended in the provisions listed opposite them in Column 2 of Schedule 1 by striking out "Ombudsman" wherever it appears and substituting "Ombudsperson".
5 The Acts listed in Column 1 of Schedule 2 are amended in the provisions listed opposite them in Column 2 of Schedule 2 by striking out "Ombudsman Act" wherever it appears and substituting "Ombudsperson Act".
6 On and after the date this Act comes into force, a reference to the Ombudsman in any instrument or other document that has not otherwise ceased to have effect is deemed to be a reference to the Ombudsperson.
7 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
