WHEREAS The Corporation of the City of Victoria has presented a petition praying that the Municipal Council of the said Corporation be granted certain powers with respect to the disposal of assets acquired for waterworks purposes pursuant to the "Corporation of Victoria Water Works Act, 1873," and otherwise:

AND WHEREAS it is expedient to grant the prayer of the said petition:

THEREFORE, HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:—

Short title

1 This Act may be cited as the "Victoria City Act, 1957."

Power to dispose of certain waterworks assets

2 Notwithstanding anything contained in the "Municipal Act," being chapter 232 of the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1948," or in any Act repealing the same, or which may be substituted therefor, but subject to the provisions of the "Victoria City Debt Refunding Act, 1944," being chapter 54 of the Statutes of British Columbia, 1944, the "Greater Victoria Water District Act," being chapter 28 of the Statutes of British Columbia, 1922, and the "Public Utilities Act," being chapter 277 of the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1948," the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Victoria may from time to time, by by-law or resolution and upon such terms and conditions and subject to such limitations, restrictions, reservations, provisos, and exceptions as the said Municipal Council may deem expedient, dispose of any and all such assets held or acquired by or granted to the said Corporation for waterworks purposes pursuant to the "Corporation of Victoria Water Works Act, 1873," being Number 88 of the Unconsolidated Statutes of British Columbia, 1888, or forming part of any watershed connected with or appertaining or belonging to any waterworks erected or constructed pursuant to the said "Corporation of Victoria Water Works Act, 1873," as in the opinion of the said Municipal Council are not required for waterworks purposes: Provided, however, that nothing in this Act contained shall be taken to have altered, impaired, or affected in any way the provisions of section 35 of the said "Corporation of Victoria Water Works Act, 1873."
