Category definition
1 In this regulation, for the purpose of determining applicable exhaust emission standards under Division 40 of B.C. Reg. 26/58, the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, a motor vehicle is tested for exhaust emissions according to standards determined by the vehicle model year, type, weight, engine displacement and fuel type as set out in the tables in the Schedule.

2 The prescribed exhaust emission standards for a motor vehicle other than a motor vehicle with a diesel engine are the standards set out in Tables 1 (a) through 1 (o), Table 1 (aa) and Tables 1 (jj) through 1 (oo) as determined by the vehicle model year, type, weight and engine displacement.

Light-duty diesel vehicle exhaust opacity standards
3 (1) In this section "diesel engine" means an engine that uses diesel fuel and in which internal combustion is initiated by compression instead of by means of a spark.
(2) The prescribed exhaust emission standard for a motor vehicle with a diesel engine in a category in Column 1 (a) of Table 2 of the Schedule is the allowable opacity set out opposite in Column 2.
