(c) in respect of which burial would have to be provided at public expense.

  Section 2 (a) BEFORE amended by 2004-35-77, effective July 4, 2004 (BC Reg 274/2004).

(a) within 48 hours after death or after being found, the body is not claimed by a relative, friend or person entitled to be the personal representative of the deceased person, and

(b) a coroner, after having viewed the body, considers an inquest unnecessary.

(2)  If the body is claimed by a person referred to in section 2 (a) within the 3 month period, the minister must release the body to that person on being satisfied that the body will be decently buried.

(3)  If the body is not required for anatomical science or instruction purposes, the minister must require the person who has charge of the body to bury it.

 Interment after use

6  When the purpose for which a body received under section 4 (1) has been served, the person who received the body is responsible, at that person's expense, for its decent burial in accordance with the recorded religious belief of the deceased person, and must promptly notify the minister of the time and place of burial.
