Constitution of ministry
1 (1) There is to be a ministry of the public service of British Columbia called the Ministry of Industry and Small Business Development.
(2) The minister is to preside over and be responsible to the Lieutenant Governor in Council for the direction of the ministry.
(3) The minister may establish branches or divisions of the ministry that the minister considers advisable.
Deputy and employees
2 (1) A deputy minister of the ministry and other employees required to carry out the ministry's business may be appointed under the Public Service Act.
(2) Despite the Public Service Act, the minister may engage and retain persons the minister considers necessary as consultants, experts or specialists, and may set their remuneration.
(3) The minister may, in writing, delegate the function of signing a document to another person, but the person may not exercise the function other than in accordance with the instructions of the minister.
Minister's duties
3 (1) The duties, powers and functions of the minister extend to and include all matters relating to the economic development of British Columbia that are not, by law, assigned to another minister, ministry, branch or agency of the government.
(2) The duties, powers and functions of the minister also extend to and include matters relating to the economic development of British Columbia assigned to the minister by order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
(3) An order made under subsection (2) may authorize the minister, on behalf of the government, to enter into arrangements or agreements relating to the economic development of British Columbia that the Lieutenant Governor in Council considers necessary.
Section 4 BEFORE repealed by 2000-23-46, effective March 31, 2002.
Annual report
4 (1) The minister must make and submit to the Lieutenant Governor in Council an annual report of the work performed by the ministry.
(2) A report under subsection (1) must be laid before the Legislative Assembly during the first session in the year following the end of the fiscal year for which the report is made.
