Constitution of ministry
1 (1) There is to be a ministry called the Ministry of International Trade, Science and Investment.
(2) The minister is to preside over and be responsible to the Lieutenant Governor in Council for the direction of the ministry.
Deputy and employees
2 A deputy minister and other employees required to carry out the ministry's business may be appointed under the Public Service Act.
Purpose and function of the ministry
3 (1) The purposes and functions of the ministry are as follows:
(a) to coordinate all matters of trade policy and international marketing and to encourage investment in British Columbia;
(b) to develop policies that will encourage the development and use of science and technology;
(c) to aid in the development of effective communication systems for the people of British Columbia.
(2) The duties, powers and functions of the minister also extend to and include matters relating to trade policy, international marketing and the encouragement of investment that are assigned to the minister by order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
(3) An order made under subsection (2) may authorize the minister to enter into, on behalf of the government, arrangements or agreements relating to trade policy, international marketing and the encouragement of investment that the Lieutenant Governor in Council considers necessary.
