Animal Disease Control Act

[RSBC 1996] CHAPTER 14

1 The Animal Disease Control Act is amended by adding the following section:

Tests before sale of animals

13.1  (1)  A person must not sell or offer or advertise for sale an animal, and a person must not purchase an animal, unless

(a) the animal has passed the tests for disease and has been subjected to vaccination or other treatment for immunity as may be prescribed by regulation, and

(b) the owner of the animal is in possession of a subsisting certificate that the result of the tests or of the vaccination or other treatment is satisfactory under the regulations.

(2)  Despite subsection (1), an inspector may give authority in writing for the sale and purchase of an animal for immediate slaughter, to be conducted under the direction of an inspector.

(3)  This section applies only to areas of British Columbia designated by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

(4)  The Lieutenant Governor in Council may except from the application of this section animals sold for immediate slaughter under conditions prescribed by this Act and the regulations.
